To Know God And Make Him Known

School of Biblial Studies

The Bible. You know it's the best book ever written. But you also know that you don't know as much about it as you'd like. You should read it more, learn more from it, work with it. That's what you want, but how? This is the time to start thinking about doing a School of Biblical Studies. It will teach you a whole new way of reading the Bible. By carefully observing, you'll discover treasures that lie hidden in the Word. And you won't be the first one to see the Bible open up before your eyes.

Lecture Phase

In the SBS we use the inductive approach. This teaches you how to let the Bible speak for itself. Instead of immediately trying to apply a Bible verse to yourself, you learn to observe what the text actually says. Then you learn how to interpret it - what did the text mean to the first people who read it? In order to do that you will receive background information on the various books and their authors. Finally, you learn how to use this information to apply the text for today: whatdoes it mean for uspersonally as well as in a larger context? You will study all 66 books of the Bible in this way. For each book you will make an outline, which is a great help in further study, teaching or preaching. Eventually this will give you an excellent overview of the entire Bible and lay a good foundation for whatever you will do after the school. There is also instruction given in preaching and teaching and you practice this on a small scale in the classroom. The course involves much self-study. The lectures and discussions give you the necessary information and clear guidelines. On top of that, each student has their own study mentor.

Study Credits

You can earn 12 credits for each three month term, totaling 36 credits for the whole SBS. These credits can go towards earning a degree from the University of the Nations or can be transferred to other universities, particularly in the States.

School Duration

The school lasts nine months (September-June) and is divided into three terms. It is possible to do one term at a time, but you must begin with the first one.You can also do the New Testament only; this involves four months - the first term and the first month of the second term. A one-month field assignment is optional after the lecture phase. (To complete a 8-12 week field assignment for credits requires the student's own initiative. We can give the requirements.)
